As part of Digital Media Services, Audio Visual Services and the Digital Media Center have the responsibility for production of webcast events. Examples of our work can be seen on the Caltech Streaming Theater, @Caltech Theater .

We also offer recording and webcast production services to research groups, departments, and divisions for use on their own servers. We have the capabilities to record and capture digital and analog video and audio source materials into digital files for integration of images, movies, animations, titles, and credits. The finished work is encoded and compressed into the desired format (avi, mpeg, quicktime, real), including S.M.I.L. code if required. The final format of an S.M.I.L. production is shown below.

Encoded source material up to 500kbps of data for multiple RealMedia encoded video streams, a capacity which enables viewers to have a choice of connecting from dial-up modem, DSL, or higher-rate cable connection.
